There is lots and lots of food prepared for the holiday.  Some is cooked, some is raw and waiting for the 'last minute' to be baked so it can stay sort of fresh even though we're not using the oven over the actual holiday ( Read more... )

Favorite Daughter helped BigRed build my dad's Sukah while LargeRed and the little boys were in school. Taped prominently to one board was 'Thank you /BigRed/ and /myNephew/ for building this Sukkah. The Manegement.'

Hehehe, my dad said he's going to put up a new sign for BigRed and FavoriteDaughter this year, because it's only fair.

Favorite Daughter baked honey cake for New Years.
Dense, delicious.
Is that honey cake or honey bread?
Whatever, I ate four slices.
Ooops. :)

Jewish New Year starts in the fall, not  the spring (riddle me this: how did April Fool's Day become a holiday?)
 and not in the middle of winter (riddle me this: when the Rockettes dance Santa, is it time for bare legs or fur jackets?)

Chop three red apples.
Chop about three ounces walnuts.
Add about five ounces sweet red wine.
Add cinnamon as desired.
Adjust any ingredient to taste...  Times five for the holiday guests.

Refrigerate about an hour.

Makes a great desert or any-time snack.
Pardon me, i'm going to add some more wine. (Hic)

A Holiday favorite, which my kids remind me to shop for, because that's how much they like it.
